An eco-efficient, optimised design for fully flexible customer solutions
The challenge
For this data centre, our brief from Virtus was to modify a standard warehouse layout and create a secure resilient flexible and modular facility, with minimum alterations to the
building envelope.
The approach
With our extensive experience and technical knowledge of data centres, we managed every element of detail – from technical building requirements to the site and traffic constraints due to the external plant space. The warehouse shell has a net internal area of 19,120m², with 1,350m² of office area split over two floors. The construction scope also included an optimum, expandable data hall solution that allows for technical space up to 8,700m² – built to minimise risk to any adjacent live environments.
The project included significant external steel gantry housing generators and cooling plant, as well as the diversion of a main sewer and construction of a new electrical sub-station.
The result
The sizeable data centre has infrastructure flexible enough to accommodate various data hall configurations, from a rack in a shared space, to individual suites or complete data
halls. With the environment front of mind, we ensured the building has dedicated power and ‘all air cooling via its open façade.
