Revitalising buildings for a digital future
The challenge
In support of a desire for fundamental redefining of the cultural and physical shape of their business, Aviva Plc identified the potential to relocate into the South Shoreditch Conservation Area, bringing a substantial new workforce, level of investment and creativity and engaging with the vibrant local community.
The approach
The refurbishment and development of 43-44 Hoxton Square completes the Aviva’s campus in Hoxton Square. Our goal was to retain the integrity of the front block and reflect its proportion in the rooftop extension and rear new block. A new staircase enhances the vertical separation between the existing and new part of the building.
The result
Completed in July 2019, the refurbished and extended façade of the Rutherford is an attractive addition to the south side of Hoxton Square. The increase in usable floor area by the new built addition is in keeping with the proportions and character of the existing building. The Rutherford contributes to the varied provision of office facilities in the Aviva digital campus.
